Recommended, but DO NOT TAMP DO NOT TAMP! The manual states this, but the instructional video shows the filter basket being tamped using the back of the scoop. This is a very impressive device, and I really enjoy it. But if you tamp the espresso in the filter basket, you will blow out a seal in the pump. I was able to disassemble mine and fix it, but not without nearly breaking it.
love it been looking for this since I first heard of them. makes the foamiest expresso I’ve ever had. a warning they aren’t kidding when they say pump at a rate no more than 1 time a second.

Secondly, the actual process of getting your shot out of the machine is problematic. It takes many, many pumps of the apparatus to get the espresso out. I had high hopes for this maker so I could enjoy my illy coffee while out of the house but unfortunately it did not deliver
